About Aiako Harria Natural Park

Aiako Harria Natural Park, located in the province of Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country, northern Spain, encompasses an area of steep, rocky terrain dominated by impressive granite massifs. The park’s most iconic peaks, including Txurrumurru, Untxillaitz, and Erroilbide, boast panoramic views over the surrounding green valleys, the Bay of Biscay coastline, and the Pyrenees. Renowned for its ancient mining history dating back to Roman times, the park still holds remnants of iron ore mines and old mining infrastructure, adding rich cultural layers to the landscape.

Ecologically, Aiako Harria hosts a mix of Atlantic forests composed of beech and oak trees alongside alpine flora, supporting varied wildlife such as wild boar, roe deer, foxes, and a host of bird species including raptors. The rugged environment also provides ideal conditions for climbers who seek challenging granite walls. Hiking trails wind through the park, ranging from moderate day hikes to more strenuous summits, making it a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Visitors are drawn to Aiako Harria for its blend of wilderness, historical intrigue, and scenic beauty. The park benefits from relatively unspoiled landscapes, peaceful natural surroundings, and a mild climate that allows for year-round outdoor activities.
